Backstage Production Tasks:
There are many tasks necessary to mounting a production. With experience you could coordinate all aspects of the production, working with the Director, Designers, and Technicians. Or you could help find costumes and props, or construct them. You could help construct and decorate a set, or run light or sound. You could work backstage during performances.
On Stage:
If you have performing skills how about choreographing a musical, directing or learning to direct? Act, sing, dance? See the Audition page for a play that's right for you.
We need directors! We have a procedure for new directors to follow that will build your skills over time. You won't be thrown in without being taught to swim.
Off-Stage Tasks:
These tasks involve the promotion of an activity or production and public/community relations activities. Included are such tasks as distributing fliers to area businesses, promoting the show to other organizations, composing mails to send to interested people, updating information for the web-master, writing news releases and radio spots about a production or activity, and taking photos for publicity purposes. Maybe you have an idea of a way to get out the word!
Perhaps you are interested in audience development. This includes coming up with ideas for special promotions or marketing to increase the demand for all the theatre opportunities The Playmakers provide our community. Or perhaps you'd rather help carry out the ideas of others. You can help us secure "community partners" for each production, as required by the Oklahoma Arts Council grants. Or you might bring a newcomer to a show. The possibilities are many.
There are many clerical and computer tasks that volunteers can perform, from writing thank you notes, helping keep our history and mailing lists up to date, to labeling mailers.
How about helping in the Box Office? We will have online ticketing soon, so if you are computer savvy, you could help with on-line reservations. Or you can help take reservations by phone, reply to email reservations, or work a performance or two in the box office. You might also help get concessions ready or decorate the lobby.
Education Tasks:
The Playmakers have a large In-school theatre education program. If you love kids, and are willing to help us teach them about theatre, we can make it easy for you to do this. Don't worry
about whether you know the subject or not…every lesson plan is scripted. A bit of research in the subject and some help from those who are already teaching and you will be set for the job.
The kids love it when The Playmakers come to their classroom!
The production tasks above have to be done for all of our in-school productions as well (4 each year). So if you like to work with kids and can help us rehearse them or prepare the set at the school, we can certainly use your help.
We would be grateful for any assistance you provide. Volunteer today by calling (918) 786-8950.
