If you want to get some experience in theatre before committing yourself to a season production, sign up for The Playmakers' Readers' Theatre.
- There is no memorization necessary; you don't have to have a performance background.
- It's fun and mentally stimulating, and takes only a few rehearsals to prepare.
- It's a good way to meet both Playmaker veterans and newcomers.
- It introduces the public to short plays, usually 10-20 minutes in length, that would otherwise stay on the page.
- It gives people in our acting pool as well as newcomers more opportunities to perform.
- It is not limited to Seniors; we look for plays that have roles for young people as well as adults.
In 2003, The Playmakers took the lead in developing a successful Readers' Theatre among Oklahoma's community theatres. Since then almost 60 performances have delighted local audiences at teas, after-hour events, holiday events and organizational meetings. Most performances are held in area restaurants and businesses, bringing more customers and advertising to them.
The Circuit Readers became the name of that part of the Readers' Theatre that concentrates on plays for Senior Citizen centers, assisted living centers and some nursing homes. It began in 2009 at Autumn Place, Honey Creek Retirement Center, and Sunrise Village.
- You can help by reading plays that might be performed, scheduling performances, and seeking cast and directors.
- Maybe your organization would like to schedule a Readers' Theatre Program. Please remember that we need plenty of lead time to find the right play and rehearse it.
- Call The Playmakers, leave a message that explains how you would like to be involved, and a volunteer will contact you. (918-786-8950)
